Celebrities - So What?

Celebrities “rule” the media.

It is flooded with stories about them – footballers, singers, actors, actresses etc.

But the thing is, at least half of these are pointless things to do with celebrities such as: their marriages, new diets, pregnancy and so on and so forth.

So?

So what?

Who cares?

It’s like people are more fascinated with celebrities’ private lives than they are to do with the celebrities’ proper career. Only last night I was watching a program on ITV1 when a clip of the “News at Ten” came on with so-called “headlines”. I called them “headlines” because I really don’t think Madonna getting divorced is a headline. Ok, for all the nosy gossipers out there, maybe they could have mentioned it if they had ran out of stories or if there was a bit of room left on the show, but not as a headline!

If some celebrity died, the media would be flooded with stories about it and that’d get far more attention than if some person (not a celebrity) died exactly the same way. Ok lots of people die everyday but I think they should be acknowledged in some way or another. A celebrity’s life is just as important as an ordinary person’s.

This is why I hate most of the news about celebrities.

It’s pointless.

Brambling Nightmares

“Aargh I got stung by a nettle!”

“Aargh I got jabbed by gorse!”

“Aargh that bramble has a maggot in it!”

“Aargh that juicy bramble burst in my fingers!”

“Aargh a spider crawled up my arm!”

When ‘Brambling’ there are a number of things that can and will go wrong. One of the most common is getting jabbed by multiple branches of gorse at the same time, just as you reach out to pick one of these delicate-twice-the-size-of-your-ordinary-bramble brambles… and then finding it has a maggot crawling out.

Just when you think things can’t get any worse you slip and all the brambles you’ve picked tumble out of your tub and onto the ground –

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”

This is less common but accidents do happen.

But at the end of the Brambling session if you have picked enough you can be rewarded with a homemade bramble crumble.

The Mighty Rearranger

Yesterday afternoon my dad and my sister went out to an open house folk session in Auchencairn leaving my mum and me in the house. After 10-15 minutes of wondering what to do for the next 4 hours or so, we couldn't think of anything more “constructive” than rearrange the downstairs room.

Up until then this room was completely cluttered. Because of my mum’s spring fling going on a couple of months before we had had to move almost everything out of her studio and into another place. As the downstairs room was the biggest we decided on this, so after we finished carrying everything down, the whole entire room was cluttered with shelving units, boxes, a wardrobe, a couch etc. You name it – it was there. Two months later – it was time to rearrange the house.

One of the things we wanted to do was change the layout of the living area. We knew my dad had been a bit picky about moving the couch and the two chairs but we also knew by the time he came back in the house it would be too late for him to do anything about it. So we went ahead with the plan.

Later on when my dad and my sister returned – “Hmm…” – dad didn’t know what to think of it. My sister however loved it. Lets just hope dad gets used to it.

Win Win Win

Normally in the morning I get my own breakfast cereal out but the other day I was pretty tired so I asked my Mum if she could get me some coco-pops.

My Dad didn’t think this was a good idea, “Your old enough to get it yourself.”

I knew this but I was still tired. However, I did still get my own coco-pops despite my tiredness and, obviously, poured out too much.

“If you’re going to pour out that much you won’t be allowed to get your own breakfast.”

Don’t you just love a win-win situation?

These are not just cakes...

Recently I have started a cake business to raise money to go on school trips. One of the first cakes I made was a 3 layer chocolate cake with whipped cream, chocolate ganache and strawberries. Since then I have worked on advertising (designing leaflets and a website). Even my dad has put up a post on his Blog about what I’ve been doing.

Looking for business, you can imagine how happy I was when bloggers Sam and Savannah asked me to bake them virtual cakes. At first I wondered how this was going to work seeing as they both live over in the states but Sam suggested a solution. What happened was that first of all they told me what kind of cake they would like and then I baked it for them. I took photos in the process from start to finish and then made up a certificate for them to say officially that they’ve been baked a cake. I sent them photos and gave them brief descriptions of how it was made and of how it tasted.

Sam's Liquorice Horlicks Delight Cake

Savannah's Chocolate Chocolate Cake

With another two cake orders for this week, the business is really getting underway.

Once again thank you to both Sam and Savannah for their support. I’ve added them to my hall of fame on the side bar.

When is a Bank Robber Most Stupid?

I’m reading a book at the moment called “Another Weird Year 2006”. Inside includes really weird stories from around the world about people (or animals) and what they’ve done. Just a couple of nights ago I was reading about all the really stupid things criminals have done.

One story that caught my attention was about a bank robber who charged into a bank and shouted “Nobody move… this is a stick-up!” It just sounds like your average bank robbery doesn’t it, and so it would be… if he hadn’t forgotten his gun.

This seems to be a bad case of bank-robber-who-forgot-his-gun-syndrome.

But what about the bank robbers who get caught (the ones who actually remember their gun)? When are they most stupid? Is it when they run away and everybody knows who robbed the bank? No. Could it be when they get caught? I don’t think so. No, if you ask me it’s when they first go to rob the bank.
